Today we are sharing the most beautiful wedding with you featuring the lovely Titus and Ellie, who were married at Clevedon Hall in Somerset. The day was a relaxed but fun celebration of their union, with a romantic ceremony in the Great Hall followed by an elegant wedding breakfast in the orangery. The day ended with an evening reception, with music and dancing under twinkling fairylights in the Great Hall.

Ellie wore Jesus Peiro 2565, a stunning statement wedding dress with an elegant square neckline, finished with bold full length puff sleeves.  To customise her gown and make it her own, Ellie switched the pleated skirt from the sample to the simple flat fronted skirt from Style 2509. To finish the look, Ellie added natural variegated pearl drop earrings from Freya Rose, along with embellished heels by Harriet Wilde.

For the evening reception, Ellie also chose a pair of sparkling glitter puff sleeves, made in-house at Miss Bush by Nortier, as well as switching her pearl earrings to glamorous crystal drops from Miss Clemmie and changing into chunky trainers for the dancefloor.

Custom Jesus Peiro 2565 wedding dress

I chose the top of JP's 2565 with the 2509 skirt and custom puff sleeves for the evening.

I tried the 2509 on first and loved it because I never thought I would pick anything with a petticoat and so much volume. It felt really exciting and helped me realise that I wanted to wear something which I would never get the opportunity to wear again. I also adored the puff sleeves and tried a few others on with Emma, including some organza sleeves. Emma told me there would be some new 2025 styles coming in before I had to make a decision so I held off and in that time, I spotted the 2565 online and fell in love with the sharper square neck line and of course, the romantic and whimsical sleeves. I thought they were beautiful and better suited for the ceremony in my venue than the short puff sleeves. Emma and the team helped me end up with the best of both worlds, with the skirt that suited me best, the 2565 neckline and gorgeous sleeves and glittery puff sleeves for the dance floor! I didn't want to change dress in the evening because you only get to wear it once and I thought the likelihood of finding something I loved as much was slim. But Titus was wearing quite a glitzy Nigerian agbada and I wanted to surprise him with some sparkles of my own - which led to the "Glinda the good witch" sleeves. It all felt like the perfect princess meets clean girl aesthetic!

I brought 2 of my bridesmaids with me at first so they saw elements of the dress but after that I only came back with my mum so that I could keep the final looks a secret! This was really difficult because I wanted to tell everyone everything all the time but it was so worth it for their reactions on the wedding day. It was also something special for mum and I to enjoy in the run up to the wedding. As soon as I tried the 2509 on again with my Mum, she loved it and then it was a case of trusting in Emma and the team that we would love the final combo of choices even more - and we both did!

Dress Shopping at Miss Bush

My favourite part of dress shopping was realising there were so many possibilities to customise your dress and that my build meant that I could wear styles I never even imagined trying. I was very anxious about dress shopping as a girl with curves who is well over 6 foot in heels. I felt disheartened looking online at plus size boutiques with styles that didn't excite me personally or straight sized lines that either would not go up to my size or had a curve range with very few, very similar options. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise because it meant I did my research and ended up finding the gem that is Miss Bush. I loved knowing that I could walk in and pick any dress in the Chapel if I wanted to and Emma made me feel like my height and shape was a gift because it meant I had the frame to try bolder and bigger styles. She also made it fun!! Seeing myself fully dressed up with a veil on for the first time was also absolutely insane! Put simply, I've never had a shopping experience where I've walked out feeling better about myself until wedding dress shopping with Emma and it has made me want to be braver with my own style!

Miss Bush rebuilt my confidence in the wedding dress industry! I think what is really important and helpful about Miss Bush is that if anything doesn't feel quite right they have the experience and the expertise in-house to help. Adrien was a star when it came to fixing my petticoat and tailoring the dress to fit me as I was just before the wedding. The team were also really kind and sensitive when I cancelled my first appointment because we had lost Titus' dad unexpectedly not too long before, then held my hand over the phone and let me rebook it because Titus pushed me to go ahead and have some time with my girlfriends. Everyone at Miss Bush is lovely!

Styling

I didn't think I was a pearl girl - probably because I was imagining little old ladies with perfectly round pearl necklaces - but I found Freya Rose's large baroque pearl drop earrings and loved the shape of them. I thought they went really well with my statement sleeves as both were romantic and a bit whimsical. I also wore diamond studs from my Mum as my something borrowed and a bracelet that Titus bought me for my birthday which was only 1.5 weeks before. In the evening I wore silver crystal Fitzroy earrings from Miss Clemmie which went perfectly with the glittery sleeves for a bit of sparkle. Rosie did a great job of introducing me to both Freya Rose and Miss Clemmie at our styling appointment.

I wore Harriet Wilde's Hetty mid block heels with tie up organza bows and silver embellishment for my shoes. These were gorgeous and I loved that you can get them engraved but I must admit, I changed quite quickly into Stuart Weitzman's all white SW trainer after the drinks reception! I picked them because they were had a very chunky sole and inserted some little heel wedges to try and keep roughly the same height and not trip on the dress. It was a little touch and go during our first dance but we muddled through!

Jodie did my hair half up and back off my face with soft waves so my sleeves could take centre stage and Kathryn went for a glowing pink look on my very pale skin which she did beautifully.

A romantic, personal and fun wedding at Clevedon Hall

We got married at Clevedon Hall which is on the coast not far from Bristol. I/Ellie am from the Chew Valley in North Somerset and always wanted to get married nearby. It is a gorgeous house with beautiful rooms and gardens, without being too big or austere. We got married in the Great Hall for the drama, which included a slightly scary walk down the stairs into the aisle that Adrien had to give me a pep talk about! It was beautifully decorated by Lara. We wanted a romantic, young, and colourful springtime feel which she achieved by dressing the stairs with flowers, statement plinths at the end of the aisle, and bud vases or smaller groupings everywhere. She made the wedding breakfast in the Orangery just as beautiful with little pink glasses, candles and shell chargers! We could rave all day about our stationary designer Carly, who used patterns and ideas we suggested from Titus' home, as well as a warm sunset yellow, to include a Nigerian influence in the wedding day and tie everything together. We also had Nigerian street food in the evening, a menu for the "little Aussie" cousins in attendance, and favours with animals the guests could build to reflect our first date at the zoo and the proposal on NYE at the Natural History Museum.

The best bits

We loved our wedding ceremony because it felt so personal and special to us. We worked with Tara the Celebrant who is amazing and she helped us to tell our story in a ceremony that also celebrated and included our families’ different cultures and religious views. Sadly, just over a year before the wedding, we lost Titus’s dad very unexpectedly. It was important to us that he was still included in the day in a way that felt uplifting so we saved him a seat and chose to sing Natasha Bedingfield’s Unwritten in our ceremony. This was because the last time we were both with Titus’s parents we saw her perform as part of a Soul Christmas concert at the Royal Albert Hall. I think it came as a bit of a surprise to some of the guests! But by the end everyone was up singing and dancing so it was a really magical moment, as were the readings from our Mums, Titus’ godfather, and my oldest childhood friend and bridesmaid.

We also adored the speeches at the wedding breakfast (dad’s 10 minute slot quickly turned into 25…), dancing the night away to our band, Uptown Showdown from Boujiee Music who were insane, and breaking out into hysterics in our photobooth which was the cutest little booth ever!

Ellie's Advice

I would say that if you are at all nervous about wedding dress shopping for any reason but, in particular, if you want to preserve your relationship with your body, do your research to find the right place for you. Some people try on a million dresses at a million different places but I only went to one other shop asides from Miss Bush and immediately knew I wanted to go back to the Chapel. Because I looked into my options beforehand, I went into wedding dress shopping knowing the kind of experience and the kind of people I was looking for, which meant I could avoid going somewhere which could have made it a less pleasant experience and put me off the whole thing. I was lucky because I found Emma on a podcast and happened to not live far away! But the people you choose as suppliers for your wedding day are so important and you can't go wrong by investing in people who have a wealth of experience and similar values to you. Also, keep an open mind and try the dress that you think is too insane for you, it's probably just right!
