Dearly Beloved…

I was shopping in Guildford one Sunday and saw a tiny crowd of senior citizens leaving a church service. I thought “how marvellous” that they get to pop into a fine piece of Gothic architecture, and someone tends to their spiritual needs. Every week.  Like drop-in counselling. In hats…

I know it is a well-drawn caricature; the bride losing her shit over something that everyone else trivialises. It is real. I know from personal experience and I know from daily experience. No amount of ‘pulling oneself together’ or ‘perspective’ is going to help. If you are a lifelong arachnophobe you are never going to be able to pick up a spider because someone rationalises that it is small and won’t hurt you. Similarly, you can’t quit smoking simply because you know it is bad for you.

Planning a wedding is one of life’s big moments and, no, its not all vanity, spending money and triviality.  Its one of the biggest ones; the one where your partner becomes your next of kin and you forsake all others, for ever, in front of everyone that means anything to you. Sometimes its overwhelming. Sometimes it’s like a very big, chain-smoking, hairy legged spider sitting in your not-so-sub-conscious.

Why have I been so dull-witted for so long? Why did it take a tweedy huddle of pensioners to make me see the light?

“I now have a fine pointy-roofed building of my very own that feels spiritual in a non-denominational way, I could open my doors to a stressed & confused bridal flock…”

Sunday 27th  January sees the inaugural Sunday Service. I have recruited a team of experts to help me dispense the best advice a bride could need. The team will change over the months especially as we head towards wedding season, but their brief is help and guidance only. This is not a ‘wedding fayre,’ this is straight answers to complex questions and a touch of tonic for the soul.

For the first event we’re delighted to welcome…
