Michelle & Phil were married in a classic fairytale wedding at Farnham Castle in Surrey. Taking place in Spring, the day was inspired by seasonal flowers and colours, with a rustic, country feel.

Michelle wore Suzanne Neville's Alicia wedding dress; a romantic, elegant wedding dress with a delicate lace bodice and floaty chiffon skirt. It was the perfect choice for the day, and Michelle styled it beautifully with a lose braided up do dotted with Miss Clemmie pins, a soft lace edged veil and beautiful Charlotte Mills bow heels.Michelle told us more...

Suzanne Neville Alicia lace wedding dress

I chose Suzanne Neville’s Alicia for my wedding Day. I absolutely loved the organza skirt and how it was so light and swishy. I also loved the delicate lace which I felt framed my body well. I also loved the feel of it on me. It was light and comfortable and I just felt like a Princess basically!I went shopping with my mum and Maid of Honour Charlie who has been my best friend since we were 16. On my initial visit to Miss Bush Corinne put Alicia on me as one of the first dresses. I did love it but tried some more on and was torn between Alicia and Floriana. The reaction my mum and best friend had to both dresses was a amazing and I definitely felt teary by the end when Corinne dressed me up in a veil and tiara! I then went to the Suzanne Neville main store in Knightsbridge to try on some more of her dresses and my two faves again. In the end I was sure that Alicia was the one and came back to Miss Bush to order it.

Dress Shopping

I loved the whole experience. I was so excited to be trying on wedding dresses as it is an experience I have always dreamt of having. I went to Miss Bush first as I had many recommendations from friends who had got their dream dress here. Corinne was amazing and made me feel really special. She listened to what I wanted and as we started trying things we very quickly worked out what suited me and what didn’t. I remember a JP dress I loved the look of but it just didn’t suit me as the fabric was too heavy but that was good to know. I remember Corinne saying ‘I think you are going to be a Suzanne Neville bride’ and I knew she was right! I think my favourite part was walking around the chapel in the most beautiful Suzanne Neville dress with a veil and tiara on at the end of the appointment! I didn’t want to take it off.Our original date was postponed 2 years, so it was sad I had to wait so long to wear my dress. I had a baby in January 2022 so I was a bit concerned how the dress was going to fit as it had been made to my exact measurements from 2019! Willow was so reassuring when she had to break it to me that my measurements had changed and my dress needed some alterations to fit my post baby body. I think you forget sometimes what your body has been through and even if you can fit in your pre baby jeans, other things like your bone structure all changes too. Luckily I was in the best hands and Jo and Willow did the most incredible job of making my dress bigger! You honestly couldn’t even tell they had touched it. I was amazed!

Styling

I wanted quite a classic fairytale style that would work with a Castle wedding but wouldn’t date. I went with a veil with a soft edge and matching lace appliqué, along with hair pins from Miss Clemmie. My shoes were from Charlotte Mills and I just loved the Tulle bows. A bow was one of the things I thought I originally wanted on my wedding dress but the dress I chose just didn’t need it so I thought it would be nice to have the bows on the shoes instead!

A classic fairytale Farnham Castle wedding

We chose April as we both love Spring and we also met in April. We were inspired by the colours and flowers of Spring and used these colours through our flowers, napkins, balloons etc on the day. We also love the countryside which is where we live and Phil grew up farming, so there was a bit of a country vibe with the tweed suits and more loose, rustic styling of the flowers. I grew up in Farnham and always wanted to get married at the Castle but never thought it would happen. So when we did actually book the Castle it was a dream come true so the theme of fairytales just seemed so apt as it really was my happy ending as cheesy as that sounds! The bridesmaids dresses in particular were very fairytale!

The best bits

I actually really enjoyed the ceremony! I was so nervous about walking down the aisle which was funny as I don’t normally get nervous. But when I was at the door about to walk down I just felt euphoric. It was such a happy feeling walking towards Phil and I just loved the whole ceremony. I also loved our band and dancing the night away with friends and family after 2 years of covid restrictions was just the best!

Michelle's Advice

With dresses I think just follow your heart. You know if you love something. You might not cry tears of joy as soon as you put ‘the one’ on and it might be more of a process but make sure you try on enough to be sure it is the one for you.Wedding planning was really enjoyable mostly but it does get hectic towards the end. Try and get as much done as possible and aim to finish a couple of  weeks before the wedding date so you have some time to chill and enjoy the build up.
