Emily & Dom were married in November at the quaint St George's Church in Langton Matravers, Dorset, followed by a relaxed and pretty reception at Harman's Cross Village Hall.

Emily looked stunning in her Anna Kara's Primrose wedding dress, which she styled with soft natural curls and a romantic veil which worked wonderfully alongside the dress's delicate, intricate nature inspired embroidery.

Anna Kara Primrose wedding dress

I chose the Anna Kara Primrose dress. I loved the feel of the dress - it was so comfortable and easy to wear. We had decided to have a relaxed country wedding, and so I wanted a dress that was comfortable to wear all day through to the reception. I can confirm that the dress is very good for dancing in, and I was even able to run around in it playing tag with my flower girls!

When I first came to Miss Bush I brought along my mum and my mother-in-law-to-be! I also had all my bridesmaids on a zoom call which was really nice - they live all around the country and I was choosing my dress while there were still lots of covid restrictions, so it was great to be able to have them there virtually. To be honest I think everyone fell in love with all of the dresses at Miss Bush, but we worked out quite quickly that the style of the Anna Kara dresses suited best. I went back for a follow up appointment to try on the top 3 dresses again, but as soon as I got the Primrose on I decided I didn't want to try any of the other dresses!

Dress Shopping

The first appointment was just so much fun. I was initially a bit nervous about the whole experience, but Emma put me at ease straight away. I tried a few dresses that I had picked before the appointment and told Emma what I liked and didn't like about them. After that Emma knew exactly which dresses to show me and what would look good on me and we were able to narrow it down to the Anna Kara range really quickly.

I got engaged at the end of April 2021 and we decided to get married in November, so we only had about 6 months to plan the wedding. I was really worried about being able to get my dream dress in that time, but Miss Bush told me about the ordering timelines and were really accommodating for booking follow up appointments so I could try the dress a second time before ordering. I had my first appointment at the end of June so it was quite a tight turnaround, but Miss Bush managed to make it happen!

Styling

As the Primrose dress has a lot of detail on it, I didn't have to do much in the way of styling to get it to look good! I wore some pearl drop earrings and a bracelet with a blue stone that my mum bought me (my "something blue"!). For the veil, my mother-in-law-to-be actually made it for me! I had a really long veil as the Primrose didn't have much of a train on it.

For the shoes, I had first ordered some wedding shoes from Dune which were satin and sparkly. They looked great but satin shoes can be quite stiff and I knew I wouldn't last the whole day in them. So I ended up exchanging them for a pair of white leather pointed heels in the sale at Dune! They weren't specifically wedding shoes but they were more relaxed and more in keeping with the style I was aiming for.

As our wedding was in November and it was due to be cold, I also bought a white fluffy bolero from Phase Eight, which worked well with the dress.

A relaxed, natural Village Hall wedding in Dorset

In the lead up to the wedding when people kept asking me what the theme or style of our wedding was, I never had any idea what to say! We were just keen on having a relaxed wedding without too many frills and didn't have any particular theme in mind. So we decided to just choose a colour scheme - green and white with lots of natural foliage and wood. Those colours seemed to really suit the location and venues where we were having the wedding. And as our decorator said, that also allowed people's outfits to be loud and colourful without clashing!

The best bits

The whole day was just incredible, so it's impossible to choose one favourite part! One thing that was really special though was immediately after the ceremony at the church. Lots of people had said that the wedding would be so busy that me and Dom wouldn't have any time just the two of us. So Dom had brought a bottle of champagne and two glasses, and straight after the ceremony (while everyone was waiting to throw the confetti) we went to the back of the church and had a glass of champagne together. It was so nice to have that time to let it sink in that we were actually married!

Emily's Advice

When I was looking for my dress, I spent hours and hours on Pinterest and looking at bridal magazines. It is worth doing, but honestly as soon as I walked into Miss Bush, most of those ideas about what I wanted went out of the window. I think the reason is that initially I was only thinking about the look of the dress but hadn't thought about the wearability and feel of the dress. For me, comfort ended up being really important, and it was really nice to have a dress that I could run around and dance in! So I would say it's worth thinking about what you want your wedding day to look like before you start dress shopping.
