Emma and Peter's incredible destination wedding took place in Penang, Malaysia, with a ceremony at St. Georges Church, Georgetown, followed by a modern, beautifully styled reception at the stunning tropical retreat, Rasa Sayang Shangri-La, also in Penang.

Emma chose the perfect Jesus Peiro wedding gown for the wedding, opting for Style 2200, which she made her own with the addition of a bold bow to the back instead of the sleeve bows as seen on the sample. To finish the look, Emma added classic, elegant accessories and a romantic veil, along with gorgeous Charlotte Mills pearl open toe heels for her 'something blue.'

Read on for more details about the day, in Emma's own words...

Jesus Peiro 2200 wedding dress

I wore Jesus Peiro 2200, bows on sleeves removed, large bow on the back. I loved that it was so simple and classic! I always knew I wanted a large bow on the back when I started looking for a dress, and it worked perfectly. It was surprisingly lighter to wear than I was expecting and having the petticoat underneath helped keep me cool in the humidity. The pockets were so handy for keeping my bits and pieces (mainly tissues for dabbing sweat and tears!).
I wanted to still feel like myself in the dress, I was worried about looking so different to Pete as I walked down the aisle, but he and our families said that they couldn't imagine me in anything else, so it was perfect.

I brought 2 of my bridesmaids to the first day of trying on dresses and my mum and sister are overseas so they joined via zoom. So none of them got to see the finished product till the day of, and they loved it. It was a nice surprise for them, and me!

Dress Shopping

My favourite part of the dress shopping experience was not feeling any pressure to make a decision there and then and that everyone at Miss Bush were so patient with me. I am known to be incredibly indecisive, which worsens when I'm being rushed, so I was able to take as much time as I needed which meant I actually chose my dress really early on!

Styling

I styled the dress with a two tiered veil (I cant remember the name!), jade drop earrings (my mums), a fine Swarovski bracelet (my sisters), and blue shoes with pearls from Charlotte Mills. I was actually planning for an emerald green pair of shoes but couldn't find any and stumbled across a Charlotte Mills pop up in Chelsea, it was meant to be!

I don't normally wear a lot of jewellery, so I kept it simple. I was also aware of the neckline and didn't want it to look too crowded.

A modern tropical wedding in Malaysia

We, fortunately, had a wedding planner based in Penang (called Sugar and Spice), who brought everything we wanted to life! Otherwise planning a destination wedding would have been near impossible.

We wanted it to be a balance of 'tropical' and 'modern' with main colours of greens, whites, golds, and browns. The flowers were important and I wanted the same colours going through. My bouquet was full of white orchids which were stunning.

The setting itself was the style and inspiration- our reception with the Chinese tea ceremony, cocktails, lunch, and the evening celebrations were at a location with a beautiful view of the sea outdoors, under a canopy, and with Edison lights coming on in the evening. The inspiration also came from my happy memories of growing up in Penang, and the Rasa Sayang was a hotel we often went to for special occasions with loved ones. Pete said to me straight after getting engaged that we were getting married in Malaysia and I didn't need any persuading!

The best bits

I have so many favourite moments! Can I narrow it down to 2?!

1. Making our entrance into our evening reception with music playing, and everyone celebrating and cheering us and seeing all the people we love in one place under one 'canopy' (which will likely never happen again)

2. My dad's father of the bride speech- It had everything, especially comedy! A large portion of our guests said it was their favourite part too!

Emma's Advice

Slow everything down and make sure you enjoy the planning process and remember it is YOU and YOUR FIANCE'S day, you can't please everyone. Try and absorb every minute of the day and soak it all in.
