We're off to the idyllic French countryside today for our bride Nicole's elegant and intimate September wedding to Marcus. The venue, La Cannonerie, is a beautifully restored old Cognac and hunting estate nestled amongst the Cognac vines in the Charente.

Nicole wore the chic, contemporary Jesus Peiro 106 wedding dress from the 2020 Cala Collection; a sleek modern wedding dress with a sharp v-neck, simple elegant bodice and full structured skirt finished with a statement bow to the waist. The dress comes with a brilliant detachable overskirt, which Nicole removed later in the day for portraits in the picturesque countryside and dancing into the early hours.

Jesus Peiro 106 wedding dress

Like many brides, what I thought I wanted, was not what I went for in the end. I had visions of an ‘insta-perfect simple boho chic’ dress, but quickly found out that style didn’t actually suit me. Ultimately, I went for something very different (and much bigger!) with an almost haute couture feel.

Dress Shopping

I had already been to 3 different wedding dress boutiques in London and was struggling to find a dress. My fortune then turned around when I was taken to Miss Bush and met the wonderful Emma, Rosie & Corrine. This team is one of a kind – absolute professionals and experts in all things bridal, but they also made the whole experience such fun and so memorable. I didn’t want too many opinions and was also keen to keep an element of surprise surrounding the dress, so I only took my mum with me to the Chapel and my sisters each came to a final fitting.

I fell in love with Jesus Peiro – the elegance and timelessness of the designs and quality of the finish is incredible. I love that the gowns are still made in Barcelona; as it happens JP were celebrating their 30th Birthday at the time.

Having chosen the Jesus Peiro 106, with the help of the Miss Bush team we made a few customisations, creating a V-back and taking a little volume out of the dress. I also had the full romantic overskirt with bow at the waist and sweeping train, which made a bold and dramatic statement and also suited the venue. The overskirt came off for the Wedding Breakfast and I had a bespoke cummerbund (made by the lovely Elizabeth) to cinch in the waist – it was like having a second dress and was much easier to dance in later!

Styling

Given much of the wedding was going to be outside, I knew I needed a block heel. I chose the Iamflorence Molly in Silver, which were perfect with the dress. I kept my earrings very simple with Gold Huggie Pearl Drops from Lily & Roo.

Emma gave some great advice on bridesmaids dresses, particularly thinking of them as a ‘girl band’ with regards to styling. I wanted all six Bridesmaids to feel amazing, confident and comfortable (and something they would wear again) so their brief was ‘mix and match pink.’ The combination of vibrant, pale and patterned pinks worked so well and they all looked stunning on the day. My mother-in-law made the Flower Girl dresses, which were gorgeous.
