Sophie and Nick are one cool couple; our bride is a vinyl DJ and her husband Nick is singer songwriter, so it was only natural that their wedding feature their combined love of music as the main focal point of the day. It was the perfect way to celebrate their marriage along with their talented musician friends who came together to help create a fun filled, party atmosphere throughout the day.

Sophie wore a fab custom 60' style Jesus Peiro wedding dress, which was created by combining a selection of different existing styles resulting in Sophie's perfect dress. We love Sophie's cool 60's Mod style - that beehive is EPIC!

Custom 1960's style Jesus Peiro wedding dress

I was keen to have a clean, classic and 60's inspired style so the dress I chose in the end was a custom 'Jesus Piero' design which incorporated the 924 top and the 918 skirt into a single dress with an empire-line waist. I had the neck line altered slightly to give it a more Bardot feel, and I added buttons to the cuffs and down the back. My veil was also a custom two-tier mid length style, which I had cut to compliment the back of my dress and give it that 60's feel I was looking for.

When I first started looking for my dress I had in my mind that I wanted a chic white mini dress, accompanied with 60's style veil - I was thinking Sharon Tate kind of vibes. However it soon became clear that the mini style wasn't making me feel special enough and the style wasn't flattering my best bits (I'm quite top heavy!). When I came in to Miss Bush, Emma tried me in a few dresses which made me open up my mind to the possibilities to customise and achieve my 60's style but also make it feel extra special and make me look my best.

After my final fitting, I was so happy with the result of my custom dress - it was chic, classic and individual and I was able to style it with my veil, beehive and eyeliner to make me feel like a 60's film star!

Dress Shopping

I shopped for my dress with my Mum and my maid of honour, Emma. They made a great shopping team as my Mum seemed to love most things I picked out but she also was knew what suited me best. Emma was good at pointing about the small details which she could tell I wasn't keen on and being imaginative with how I could make it more 'Me'.

As the design was custom, I put trust in Miss Bush and Jesus Piero to apply all the details and alterations I wanted. I must admit, I was nervous to commit to something I hadn't seen in real life, but when my dress was delivered and I tried it on for the first time my Mum, Emma and I knew it was perfect! There was a few tears and an overwhelming sense of emotion as I'm sure every bride feels when they first try on the wedding dress that is made for them.

Living in London, our trip to Miss Bush in Ripley was an exciting day out and made to feel even more special by the customer service. I had come to try on a dress I had seen online but the fit didn't particular work for me. Miss Bush was great at pulling out pieces to open my imagination to new possibilities of our how I could custom my dress to make it just how I wanted.

The Chapel is a beautiful place to visit, filled with a range of styles, sizes and lengths for every bride, but also with the stylish curation of Emma at Miss Bush.

Styling

I was looking to achieve a 60's inspired style, but with a contemporary, chic edge so that it didn't feel too vintage. I wore my dress with a veil and had my hair styled by the amazing 'Flamingo Amy' who specialises in vintage styles, she also did my make-up which was film star perfection!

I struggled to find a pair of shoes that didn't feel too bridal, so I opted for a lovely pair of coral sandals from 'By Far'. They were an old season style which I'd had my eye on for a while. It took me a while to find a pair but I managed to get a great bargain on eBay!  The colour of them also perfectly matched my husbands 'Paul Smith' tie which coincidentally tied together the colours of my shoes and flowers too.

A fun, music filled, 60's inspired wedding day

When organising our wedding we had three priorities - Music, freedom and booze.

For Nick & I, soul music is a massive part of our lives and our friends lives. Nick is a singer, songwriter and I'm a vinyl DJ, a lot of our friends are also talented musicians and we felt this had to be a big part of our day.

The venue we chose had no corkage fee, no restrictions on suppliers and was basically a house for us to make the biggest party we wanted! So it was perfect!

In terms of style, we didn’t really have a theme as such due to the venue having its own quirks but naturally a mid-20th Century colour palette developed from our colourful flowers, outfits and then the addition of all the other little elements.

The days running up to our wedding, there was strong winds, constant downfall of rain and our wedding day wasn’t looking good either. We had imagined to have our ceremony outside in the beautiful gardens at Voewood but it just wasn’t going to happen. On the eve of our wedding we were a little disappointed it wasn’t going to go to plan, but in fact the rain made it extra special! Voewood is such a beautiful, individual and charismatic venue which lent it self to being perfect for a bit of rain. Everyone was together and in fact the rain just made us party harder for longer!

The venue has ‘The Music Room’ which homes a beautiful grand piano, so in the afternoon the room filled with all our friends around it have a sing-a-long and getting merry with our homemade cocktail recipes and Nick’s Mum’s canapés keeping everyone going.

Our wedding breakfast was a delicious hog roast which was cooked by the local butchers and Nicks Mum (and helpers) took lots of time and love into preparing salads, sides and the rest of the fantastic spread. It wasn’t too fancy, just perfectly homemade and delicious!

In the evening, we made use of our talented friends and partied the night away with the band Nick plays with, plus a surprise guest appearance from Nick as well! The after party continued into the early hours with four of our friends sounding out the soulful sounds on the decks until our feet were utterly worn out and a little sore!

The best bits

I loved every part of the day - from getting ready with the girls, walking down the aisle and seeing Nick's face when he saw me to dancing the day away with all our favourite friends and family. It was simply the best day ever!

Sophie's Advice

Be yourself and enjoy yourself.

The world of weddings can be very overwhelming on Instagram, blogs, magazines and at wedding fairs, make sure you give yourself a budget, think about what your priorities are for you, your husband and your guests experience - then stick to it! No one will notice if you haven't managed to provide the ice luge with free Jägermeister all night - if anything you're doing yourself a favour!
